The Atlanta Women’s Alliance (AWA) is an umbrella organization for women’s and girls’ organizations in the metro Atlanta region. AWA facilitates organizations with common missions coming together and maximizing their individual and collective potential for the common good of our community.
The Atlanta Women’s Alliance was founded in 2000 by group of a forward-thinking women who were concerned about increasing collaboration and cooperation among the community's many organizations serving women and girls.
Membership to AWA is open to any non-profit orgainzation that meets this women-and-girl-serving standard, and that pays its annual, required dues to AWA. This includes professional associations, trade associations, networking groups, and public charities. (There are no individual members of the AWA.)
Since its founding the AWA has engaged its membership in a series of networking events, produced a commmunity-based calendar to reduce “event competition” and promote cooperative planning, and has hosted quarterly best practices seminars on a variety of topics relevant to the high-level functioning of organizations that serve women and girls.
AWA is governed by a Board of Directors from its member organizations and also has a Delegate Assembly composed of one delegate from each member organization.
